THE ATTIC OF MILENA AND FRANCO
On the Roofs of the City
An attic with a terrace overlooking the rooftops of the city and the bell tower of Alexandria Cathedral. It is the retreat home of a couple very busy with work, he an entrepreneur, she the sales manager of an international brand. A cozy place to come back to relax and always feel at ease.
The Project
The challenge was to create two apartments from one small attic space.
It was not easy to meet the clients’ requirements considering the pre-existing heights and lighting ratios; we had to take exposure and solar factors into account during the design phase because natural light is very important and influences our perception of comfort, but the result is very pleasant.
In 70 square meters there is a study, a guest bathroom, a laundry area, a bedroom with direct access to the second bathroom, and a large living area where there is a large table for dinners with friends. One enters directly into the living area that is open to the kitchen, which has two passages to the terrace and this allows the interior space to expand. Here a pergola with a white roll-up fabric canopy and green water-repellent cotton curtains protect from the sun during the hottest days; the tables and chairs are from the Desalto company.
The use of wallpaper
The sleeping area is accessed through a hallway lined with a scenic wallpaper designed by Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas for Glamora that underscores its path.
The images of a thin thread are repeated as in a kaleidoscope to lead to infinity, in a playful decoration that reflects the sunny disposition of the hostess, Sales Director Italy of the Yves Rocher brand, always traveling for work.
Milena and Cristina
“Returning to this house after a business trip, says Milena, makes me feel protected and positive. It is a cozy house where I feel perfectly at ease, it is like returning to a nest where I find loved ones, my cats and where I have the right spaces for everything. The meters are not many, but Cristina and Mario managed to distribute everything with care and attention. We also reused some furniture from the previous house with a view to sustainability and optimization, because they are timeless pieces of design. I relied on them for both the design and the furniture that Colla Arredi provided.”
The Moodboard
The decor is played on light tones, minimalist and functional for a contemporary couple. The result is a cozy, warm and bright environment with the privilege of a large terrace and an exclusive view of the city.
