IN USA, AT TANIA AND GUIDO’S HOUSE
The Environments
In Washinton D.C., in one of the most exclusive residential areas, the home of a young couple, she Russian and he Italian, who have lived in different cities around the world. D.C. was the only city where they really felt “at home,” and here they looked for and found the house that matched their expectations of space. And then the location, light and greenery of this home won them over.
The Project
Entering, one immediately perceives the large living space: several levels connect the rooms of the house with stairs open to this area, double-height ceilings and light colors emphasize the light that pervades the rooms.
The sleeping area is on two separate levels that also include the study and walk-in closet.
The greenery of the terrace and garden, visible from all angles, is the fil-rouge that ties all the rooms together.
The design requirements were for a simple, yet elegant environment with a few elements that would also dialogue with the terrace and garden.
I thought of Cappellini’s Branch Table for the dining area, which with its sinuous structure is reminiscent of the branches of a tree combined with Juli chairs, and then a low sofa, a full volume, the way they liked it, the Oblong sofa, designed by Jasper Morrison for Cappellini, contrasting with the height of the ceiling. Everything was strictly light, just a few touches of color in the cushions, the Easy sideboard and the iconic piece I placed at the entrance, the Shiro Kuramata-designed “Revolving cabinet” chest of drawers, almost a light and lively sculpture, in red methacrylate to emphasize the hosts’ choice of a young, cheerful and designer environment.
The Realization
With Tania and Guido we immediately had a good understanding and the project developed remotely thanks to their active collaboration. The supply of the furnishings took place directly from Colla Arredi, my company that has been operating in the sector for years and thanks to which I have gained experience and knowledge to support the Atelier’s projects.
Thanks to the hospitality of the hosts, I took care of the details during the furniture assembly phases and together we dedicated ourselves to choosing the accessories.
